Hazaribagh, October 23 (Daily Kiran) : Tensions are escalating in Hazaribagh following the suspicious death of Anushka Chakraborty, a lawyer at the Jharkhand High Court. Her body was discovered hanging in her apartment at Gupta Complex in the Bengali Para area on Thursday.
Relatives of the deceased have labeled the incident a planned murder, placing serious allegations against her husband. Family members, local lawyers, and residents have staged protests demanding the immediate arrest of the husband and a thorough investigation into the case.
Authorities have stated that the true cause of death will be revealed only after the viscera and post-mortem reports are completed. At the family’s request, police conducted a second post-mortem on Friday to ensure all legal formalities were observed. The family has insisted that they will not perform the last rites until the husband is arrested and the truth of the matter is uncovered.
They have warned that if police do not take decisive action soon, they will sit in indefinite protest outside the police station. Initial investigations revealed that the husband had reported the incident to the police himself via a ‘Dial 100’ call, claiming he was in Palamu and would return shortly. However, he has not yet presented himself to the police since the incident.
Mukesh Kumar Rajak, in charge of the Big Bazaar police outpost, stated that efforts are ongoing to locate the husband, and he will be taken into custody soon. On Friday, local MLA Mamta Devi visited the post-mortem facility at Sheikh Bhikhari Medical College Hospital, supporting calls for a high-level investigation, video documentation of the post-mortem process, and the swift arrest of the absconding husband.
During the visit, family members, lawyers, and Congress party workers expressed their anger, resulting in heated exchanges with police and administrative officials. According to Mamta Devi, Anushka had spoken to her mother just before the incident, mentioning serious disputes with her husband.
The family claims that Anushka had previously reported instances of harassment and domestic discord. Police have assured that they are investigating the case from all angles and will take strict legal action based on the evidence gathered.
