New Delhi, May 12: The National Testing Agency (NTA) has canceled the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET UG 2026), which was scheduled for May 3. This decision comes in response to a significant paper leak that has sparked outrage among candidates regarding the government’s failure to maintain exam integrity.
On Tuesday, the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) organized a vigorous protest in New Delhi. Hundreds of students who were set to take the NEET UG exam participated in the demonstration. NSUI National President Vinod Jakhar spoke to the media, expressing dismay over the government’s silence regarding the paper leak. He questioned how a 600-mark question paper could circulate among students as a leaked document via platforms like Telegram and WhatsApp.
Jakhar highlighted that millions of young people have been preparing for NEET UG for the past two years. Many of these students have parents who have taken loans to support their education. He called the paper leak a failure of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, urging him to resign.
He emphasized the need for the government to take decisive action against the paper leak mafia. Those responsible must face strict consequences. This incident raises serious questions about the future of students and the government’s operational effectiveness.
Discussing the implications of the NEET UG exam, Jakhar noted that this issue extends beyond a single test; it concerns the future of healthcare in the country. If individuals who engage in such malpractice become doctors, it jeopardizes the health of the nation.
Students involved in the protests pointed out that a similar paper leak occurred in 2024, yet no substantial action was taken at that time. Once again, a 600-mark paper has been compromised, and there has been no accountability. They voiced frustration, asking what the point of years of hard work is if dishonest students are allowed to advance. They questioned, “After spending years away from home and investing millions, what is the government doing about this leak? It raises serious concerns about the system.”
Beyond New Delhi, students and organizations across various states are expressing their anger over the NEET UG paper leak. A candidate from Jammu and Kashmir stated, “This is a gross failure of the NTA’s administration and management. The same issue occurred in 2024, and now it has happened again. Those who took the exam honestly after two years of hard work now have their papers canceled. This is incredibly unjust.”
Following the cancellation of the NEET UG exam, students from Rajasthan welcomed the decision. They stated, “The NTA’s cancellation of the NEET UG 2026 exam, approved by the Indian government, is a relief. If the exam had not been canceled, it would have been unfair to those who took the test honestly. This incident also reflects the failures of the NTA and the administration.”
