Ranchi, May 19: Ranchi police have uncovered an organized motorcycle theft gang operating in the Namkum police station area, resulting in the arrest of seven suspects. Authorities recovered 12 stolen motorcycles, several cut engines, and six mobile phones from the gang.
According to police reports, the gang was involved in stealing motorcycles from local markets in Ranchi and nearby areas, altering their number plates, and selling them. On the evening of May 18, Ranchi’s Senior Superintendent of Police received a tip-off about a young man riding a stolen blue Apache motorcycle heading towards Rampur. Following this information, a special raid team was formed under the direction of the rural SP and led by Senior Police Deputy Superintendent Amar Kumar Pandey.
The police team initiated a vehicle inspection campaign near the Sidraul Joda temple. During this operation, they apprehended a young man riding a blue Apache motorcycle. Upon questioning, he identified himself as Abhay Singh, also known as Mannu Singh, from Sitabdiara in Bihar’s Saran district.
Abhay confessed to stealing the motorcycle and stated that he was taking it to Wasim Ohdar, also known as Wasim Alam, in Bero for resale after changing its number plate. He revealed that he had previously been imprisoned for motorcycle theft and had met Wasim while incarcerated. After their release, they formed a gang with other accomplices.
Police indicated that gang members stole motorcycles from various local markets in Ranchi. They would then remove the original registration numbers and replace them with fake plates before selling the vehicles. The proceeds from the thefts were shared among the gang members.
Based on Abhay Singh’s information, police arrested Wasim Ohdar, Danis Alam, Sharif Khan, Naseem Ansari, Tauhir Ansari, and Moin Khan. A total of 12 stolen motorcycles and several cut engines were recovered from their locations.
Authorities noted that both Abhay Singh and Wasim Ohdar have prior criminal records. Multiple cases related to motorcycle theft, fake number plates, and fraud have been registered against them at various police stations in Ranchi. A case has been filed at Namkum police station under case number 133/26.
All arrested individuals are being sent to judicial custody. The raid involved Namkum police station chief Ramnarayan Singh and several police officers, along with armed forces personnel.
