Lucknow, August 5: During the monsoon session of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly, Speaker Satish Mahana addressed the uproar caused by Samajwadi Party (SP) legislators. He emphasized that all members have the right to express their views within the house. The government will respond to the questions raised, but disrupting the proceedings is unacceptable.
In a conversation in Lucknow, Mahana stated that he wished for discussions on the notices submitted by the opposition. He has consistently advocated for the assembly floor to be a space for dialogue. Agreement and disagreement are integral to democracy. The opposition should voice their concerns, and the government will provide its answers. He accepted all relevant notices submitted by opposition legislators that adhered to the established rules.
Mahana remarked that if the proceedings are ongoing and the opposition creates disruptions, it undermines the purpose of the assembly. He has made numerous attempts to appeal to opposition members, but when they did not comply, he had to make decisions according to the rules.
Minister Narendra Kashyap criticized the Samajwadi Party, claiming they do not favor development or the welfare of Uttar Pradesh‘s youth. He accused the SP of obstructing discussions about public interests and state progress. This obstructionist behavior was evident again during the assembly session. Kashyap asserted that the people of Uttar Pradesh are watching and will respond to the SP in the 2027 elections.
He further stated that the SP’s actions reflect a dangerous and undemocratic behavior. He questioned the credibility of those who have never contributed to party funds yet accuse others of misconduct. The public is aware of the SP’s antics in both the parliament and assembly, and their desperation for power is leading them to undermine democracy.
Minister Sanjay Nishad described the opposition’s behavior as disgraceful and indicative of their double standards. He urged the representatives to truly represent the voice of the people.
Minister Danish Azad Ansari condemned the SP leaders for their unruly behavior both on the streets and in the assembly. He labeled the disruption of proceedings as a crime and asserted that the SP has no genuine interest in the state’s development.
BJP legislator Ramesh Chandra Mishra criticized the SP for their past actions, including disrespect towards traditions in the parliament. He condemned their recent display of objectionable posters, which he believes tarnished the dignity of the assembly.
