Jharkhand Womens U-19 Team Files Complaint Over Scoring Error in Championship Match
Jharkhands womens U-19 team has lodged a complaint with BCCI over a scoring error that led to a narrow defeat in the T20 championship.

Nagpur, October 29 (Daily Kiran) : The Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA) has formally lodged a complaint with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) regarding a scoring error that reportedly cost the Jharkhand women’s under-19 team a crucial match against Uttarakhand in the T20 championship pre-quarterfinals. According to the JSCA, a mistake by the scorers resulted in the team missing out on a run, leading to their defeat by a single run.
This incident occurred last week during the final overs of the match held in Nagpur. Chasing a target of 135 runs, Jharkhand found themselves at 127 for 7 after 19 overs, needing 8 runs off the last 6 balls to secure victory.
The team managed to score 3 runs off the first three balls but faced a setback when Lakshmi Kumari was run out while attempting a double on the fourth ball. Reports indicate that she had completed a run before her dismissal, but the scorers failed to record it, only noting the run out. Consequently, Jharkhand needed 5 runs from the last 2 balls.
The bowler, Kanika Negi, bowled a wide on the next delivery, altering the requirement to 4 runs off 2 balls. The following ball saw Isha, batting at number 10, run out while attempting to steal 2 runs. This time, the single run was recorded, leaving Jharkhand needing 3 runs from the final delivery.
As Bhagat faced the last ball, Ishika Deepak was also run out while attempting to score 2 runs. Although this single run was added, Jharkhand ultimately lost by just one run. The JSCA argues that the run not credited on the fourth ball was pivotal in determining the outcome of the match.
Head coach Jaskaran Singh has called for an investigation into the matter. He expressed disappointment, stating, “This was the first time Jharkhand’s team reached the knockout stage of the women’s under-19 tournament, making the outcome particularly frustrating. If it had been a league match, the situation might have been different. These tournaments are very significant for the players. We hope this issue will be investigated to prevent such mistakes in the future. Before filing the complaint, we reviewed the last over video, and it was clear that the scorers made an error. We informed match referee Anupa Narvekar immediately after the presentation.”
