Opposition Leader Satheeshan Launches Scathing Attack on Kerala Chief Minister

Idduki, April 6: In a fierce critique of the ruling government in Kerala, opposition leader V.D. Satheeshan labeled the government’s progress report as a “bundle of lies.” He accused the administration of exaggerating its achievements while concealing significant failures ahead of the assembly elections on April 9.

Satheeshan pointed out that the government’s report shrank from 38 pages to 24, indicating an attempt to hide the truth. He questioned the government’s housing scheme, noting that while a promise was made in 2016 to build five lakh homes, only about 4.5 lakh have been completed in ten years. In contrast, he highlighted that the previous Oommen Chandy-led government managed to construct nearly five lakh homes in just five years.

The opposition leader also criticized the Left Democratic Front (LDF) for failing to fulfill promises related to welfare schemes. He mentioned that the commitment to increase the social security pension from ₹1,600 to ₹2,000 and then to ₹2,500 remains unfulfilled, with the recent increase occurring just before the elections.

Satheeshan further condemned the government for not delivering on the promised support price of ₹250 for rubber. In the health sector, he alleged that several initiatives launched during the previous United Democratic Front (UDF) government, such as the Karunya scheme, have either been weakened or discontinued, leaving the system in a precarious state.

He also noted that despite rising fuel prices, subsidies for fishermen have been reduced, and the announced ₹12,000 crore package for the sector exists only on paper.

Targeting Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Satheeshan accused him of wrongly taking credit for major projects like the Vizhinjam port, which were initiated by the UDF government. He criticized the government’s handling of land-related issues, claiming that all disputes remain unresolved, with pending cases related to leases and forest land.

Satheeshan described the governance situation as deteriorating, citing vacant positions in universities, declining farmer incomes, and a failed procurement system. He asserted that the government’s report is a fabrication, and the public will decide its fate on election day.

He also accused the CPI(M) of spreading misinformation regarding financial issues in Wayanad and raised serious allegations about the misuse of funds collected in the name of martyrs. Satheeshan questioned the ruling party’s stance on organizations like the SDPI and accused leftist and BJP leaders of political opportunism. He emphasized that the UDF is committed to transparent and accountable governance, contrasting sharply with the arrogance and deception of the current government.
