Madhya Pradesh Deputy CM Denies Link Between Deaths and Adulterated Alcohol in Dewas
Madhya Pradeshs Deputy CM refutes claims that recent deaths in Dewas were caused by adulterated alcohol, stating postmortem reports show otherwise.

Dewas, October 25 (Daily Kiran) : In Dewas, Madhya Pradesh, Deputy Chief Minister Jagdish Devda addressed growing concerns over recent deaths in the region, asserting that they were not linked to adulterated alcohol. Speaking on Sunday, he stated that postmortem reports revealed no traces of counterfeit liquor in the deceased.
Out of ten reported deaths, eight were classified as natural, while the remaining two also showed no evidence of adulterated alcohol, according to Devda. This clarification comes in the wake of nearly ten suspicious deaths in the villages of Chandna and Bijana over the past month.
Former Union Minister Arun Yadav has demanded compensation of one crore rupees for the families of each victim. He criticized the government’s initial dismissal of the deaths as false claims. After visiting affected families, Yadav expressed concerns that the administration was attempting to cover up the truth by labeling these incidents as “natural deaths.” He insisted that merely forming an investigation team was insufficient and called for the suspension of responsible officials and stricter action against those involved in illegal alcohol trade.
Residents and families of the deceased have alleged that the deaths may be linked to the consumption of fake alcohol. They reported symptoms such as blurred vision, complete blindness, restlessness, and vomiting after drinking.
State Congress President Jitu Patwari and Yadav visited the affected villages on Saturday to meet families and demand a thorough investigation into the matter. However, local authorities maintain that the exact cause of death will only be determined following detailed postmortem examinations and analysis of internal organs.
Sub-Divisional Magistrate Abhishek Sharma dismissed claims of 15-20 deaths from fake alcohol in Chandna as “misleading and baseless.” He emphasized that no such connection has been established in the ongoing investigation. Further actions will be determined based on a forensic science laboratory report.
Another official noted that confirmation of whether the consumed alcohol was toxic would depend on the results of a technical report. While villagers are calling for an extensive investigation, authorities have urged the public to refrain from spreading unverified information. The administration has assured that the case is being investigated and appropriate actions will be taken based on scientific evidence.
