Opposition Lacks Understanding of Defense Strategy, Modern Weapons Essential for National Security: Krishna Hegde
Krishna Hegde criticizes the opposition for its lack of defense strategy understanding, emphasizing the need for modern weapons for national security.

Mumbai, October 23 (Daily Kiran) : Shiv Sena spokesperson Krishna Hegde recently addressed the modernization of weapons for the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) in Mumbai. He criticized the opposition for lacking a fundamental understanding of defense strategy, stating that the call for advanced weapons is crucial for national security.
Hegde emphasized that when the ITBP’s Director General advocates for modern armaments such as drones, artillery, machine guns, and AK-47s, it should be welcomed as a positive step for the nation. He remarked, “If the Director General of ITBP says that troops need modernization with better weapons, it is beneficial for the country.”
He further pointed out the importance of being well-equipped, given the borders with Bangladesh, China, and Pakistan, as well as the proximity of Sri Lanka. Hegde insisted that modernization is essential not just at the Indo-Tibetan border but across the army, air force, and navy. He noted that the government is actively working in this direction.
Hegde recalled the successful deployment of Rafale jets during Operation Sindoor and highlighted the role of modern artillery in past conflicts, including the Kargil War and engagements in Galwan. He praised the Border Security Force for effectively handling infiltrations along the Bangladesh border.
He mentioned that many countries invest billions in defense modernization, and India is also making significant strides in this area. Hegde expressed pride in these efforts.
The spokesperson criticized the Congress party for seemingly lacking understanding of defense issues, suggesting they are attempting to target the ITBP by resurrecting old controversies. He reminded listeners of the territorial concessions made to China during Congress’s rule, underscoring the importance of learning from history.
Hegde concluded by affirming that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, while dialogues with China have been pursued, India’s need for modernization and advanced weaponry remains paramount. He expressed confidence in the government’s capability to address these challenges effectively.
