Influencer Amir Shaukeen Sent to Judicial Custody Over Racial Abuse Case in Delhi

Influencer Amir Shaukeen has been placed in judicial custody for one day following his arrest for racial abuse against a youth from Tripura.

New Delhi, October 23 (Daily Kiran) : In New Delhi, social media influencer Amir Shaukeen has been remanded to one day of judicial custody following his arrest for racial abuse against a youth from Tripura. The decision was made by the Tis Hazari Court after Shaukeen was presented before the duty judge on Friday.

During the hearing, Delhi police requested a six-day police custody for Shaukeen. However, his lawyer opposed this request, arguing that they had not yet received a copy of the FIR nor were they informed of the reasons for his arrest.

After deliberation, the court ordered Shaukeen to be held in judicial custody for one day, with a requirement to appear before the relevant court again on Saturday.

Shaukeen was apprehended on October 22, shortly after a controversial video went viral on social media, leading to an FIR being filed against him. The police have registered the case under various sections of the Indian Penal Code at the Sadar Bazar police station.

In response to the backlash, Shaukeen issued an apology on social media, claiming that the viral video was scripted and that the interaction depicted was intended as a joke. He emphasized that there was no intention to hurt anyone’s feelings.

The Delhi police initiated the investigation based on a complaint from the Tripura Students Forum in Delhi, which alleged that the video showcased disrespectful behavior towards the youth, potentially promoting discrimination and racial comments against people from Northeast India.

The complaint highlighted that if the allegations were proven true, it would be a serious violation of the individual’s dignity, safety, and respect. The organization demanded prompt action and a fair investigation from the police.

The case gained national attention after it was raised on social media by Union Minister Kiren Rijiju. The Delhi police are currently conducting an investigation into the matter.
