Opposition Accuses Government of Misleading Women on Reservation Bill

New Delhi, April 19: The opposition has accused the government of plotting against women following the failure to pass the Women’s Reservation Amendment Bill in the Lok Sabha. Opposition MPs claim that the government is misleading women for political gain.

Congress MP Manish Tewari stated, “The truth is that the Women’s Reservation Bill was unanimously passed in both houses of Parliament in September 2023. However, the government has not notified it until April 16, 2026. If they were genuinely sensitive about women’s reservation, why did it take them nearly 30 months to officially notify this law? That is the first question.”

He added that the bill presented in Parliament was not solely about women’s reservation; it was also linked to delimitation. There are concerns that under the guise of women’s reservation, the political and geographical structure of the country could be altered. This has led opposition MPs to unite in their protest against it.

Congress MP Deepender Singh Hooda remarked, “The BJP has been deceiving the women of this country. Their true aim is political delimitation under the pretext of women’s reservation. We will continue to protest until women receive their rightful reservation. The government is misleading women, and the public is beginning to understand this; they will soon receive a response.”

Samajwadi Party MP Avadhesh Prasad stated, “The BJP has no solid arguments other than misleading the public. The government is creating misunderstandings against the opposition.”

He further claimed that the government has deliberately created these circumstances to trouble women and place blame on the opposition.
