Kulgam, August 3 (H.S.): The fierce encounter between security forces and terrorists hiding in the dense forests of Akhal in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district entered its third day on Sunday. Officials confirmed that intermittent gunfire and explosions continued throughout the night.

The anti-terror operation began on Friday after intelligence inputs confirmed the presence of militants in the Akhal forest area. So far, two terrorists have been killed, while another is reported to be injured. One soldier has also sustained injuries and is currently undergoing treatment.
Sources have described this as one of the biggest anti-terror operations of the year. The operation involves high-tech surveillance tools including drones and thermal imaging devices. Special Para Forces have also been deployed to strengthen the effort.
Senior officials, including the Director General of Police (DGP) and the General Officer Commanding of the Army’s 15 Corps, are closely monitoring the situation. The operation remains active.
