Odisha Unveils Advanced Semiconductor Technology: Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw

Bhubaneswar, April 20: Odisha’s Chief Minister Mohan Chandra Majhi and Union Minister for Railways, Information and Broadcasting, and Electronics and Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw, inaugurated India’s first advanced 3D glass substrate packaging unit by 3D Glass Solutions in Bhubaneswar’s Infovalley.

During the ceremony, CM Majhi highlighted that Odisha has emerged as an ideal location for the global semiconductor industry due to its resources, talent, infrastructure, and strong will. Odisha’s Electronics and IT Minister, Dr. Mukesh Mahaling, was also present at the event.

This project, with an investment of approximately ₹2,000 crores, is expected to produce 70,000 glass panels, 50 million assembled units, and 13,200 advanced 3DHI modules annually. It is anticipated to create around 2,500 job opportunities in the state.

The Chief Minister stated that this day marks a significant milestone not only for Odisha but also for India’s technological leadership. He mentioned that this project will be the country’s first advanced 3D glass substrate packaging unit. The products manufactured here will play a crucial role in sectors such as artificial intelligence, high-performance computing, and defense electronics.

He emphasized, “Odisha has become an excellent place for the global semiconductor industry. We possess resources, talent, infrastructure, and a strong determination. If you want to create future technology, Odisha is the right place for you.”

To explain why Odisha is becoming a preferred state for investment, the Chief Minister outlined five key factors: abundant natural resources, world-class infrastructure, skilled youth, better connectivity, and accountable governance.

He urged the youth, saying, “This is a golden opportunity for students and engineers in Odisha. They should acquire the necessary skills to advance in this emerging field.”

The Chief Minister noted that over ₹10,000 crores have already been invested in the semiconductor sector in the state. Companies like RIR Power Electronics and Sixsem have already established their units here.

He added that Odisha will play a crucial role in fulfilling Prime Minister Modi’s vision of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ and will serve as a launchpad for Eastern India.

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated that efforts will continue to strengthen Odisha industrially and develop it as an IT hub in the coming years. He remarked that the world’s most advanced semiconductor technology has now arrived in Odisha. Today’s inauguration will bring extensive development to the state. This unit by 3D Glass Solutions will produce a unique product in the country, and this technology will shape the future of the semiconductor industry.
