Odisha Tragedy: Naveen Patnaik Expresses Condolences Over Medical College Fire Incident

Bhubaneswar, March 16: Naveen Patnaik, the leader of the opposition in the Odisha Assembly, has expressed deep sorrow over the devastating fire incident in the ICU of SCB Medical College Trauma Care in Cuttack. This tragic event has resulted in the loss of 10 patients’ lives, with many others suffering serious injuries.

Patnaik extended his condolences to the families of the deceased and offered prayers for the souls of the departed. He wished for the swift recovery of the injured and emphasized the need for them to receive the best possible medical care.

He directed Cuttack Mayor Subhash Singh and the local MLA from Tangi-Choudwar to immediately visit the site and provide all possible assistance to the affected families and patients. Additionally, Patnaik plans to visit SCB Medical College himself to assess the situation firsthand and meet with the injured and their families.

The fire broke out around 2:30 AM on Monday in the ICU of SCB Medical College Trauma Care. The blaze was so severe that it posed significant challenges for both patients and hospital staff. Local authorities and the fire department responded promptly, but by then, 10 lives had already been lost. The incident has caused widespread panic in the hospital and surrounding areas.

While the exact cause of the fire remains unknown, police are currently investigating the matter.

In the wake of this tragic event, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi also visited the site to gather information. During his visit, he announced a compensation of 2.5 million rupees from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF) for the families of the deceased. He also instructed for special medical arrangements for the injured patients.
