Bhubaneswar, September 18 (Daily Kiran) : Odisha has taken significant strides in its semiconductor ambitions during Semicon India 2026, securing investment proposals totaling approximately ₹23,600 crores. This initiative is expected to generate over 6,100 job opportunities. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi is actively leading high-level meetings with industry leaders.
During the event, the Chief Minister engaged with delegations from Japan, Sweden, and Taiwan. He also met representatives from global tech companies, including Lam Research, Applied Materials, 3D Glass Solutions, Sciant, Linde, and Horiba India. A letter of intent was signed with QuadQuantum for the production of SiC substrate wafers.
In a notable announcement, the Chief Minister revealed plans to develop the Odisha Silicon Valley on an 870-acre site in Naraj, near Cuttack. This facility aims to become a world-class semiconductor hub, hosting major semiconductor, electronics, and IT projects.
The strategic location of Naraj offers easy connectivity to the Cuttack-Bhubaneswar urban corridor and access to significant ports like Paradip and Dhamra, as well as national highways. Its proximity to the Mahanadi River ensures a reliable water supply, essential for semiconductor fabrication. The Chief Minister emphasized the goal of creating a global ecosystem where companies can manufacture, innovate, and grow.
At the Odisha Pavilion, the state’s journey from “sand to silicon” was showcased, featuring the first batch of Made in India chips from institutions like RIR Power, SiCsem, 3DGS, ARF Design, and NIT Rourkela, along with PMEC Brahmapur.
Chief Minister Majhi stated that Odisha’s semiconductor journey is rapidly progressing toward implementation. The state has successfully attracted investment in crucial areas of the value chain and is moving significant projects forward.
Furthermore, the state government has aligned its semiconductor policy with the India Semiconductor Mission 2.0. Under the third policy amendment, Odisha will provide an additional 25% fiscal support for ISM-approved projects in semiconductor equipment manufacturing, semiconductor-grade gas, and raw material segments.
