Driving License Made Easy
Gone are the days of standing in long queues, submitting piles of paperwork, or dealing with brokers. The process to get a driving license is now completely online, thanks to the Sarathi portal managed by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. Applicants can now fill forms, upload documents, pay fees, and book their driving test slots digitally — all without stepping outside.
What is a Driving License?
A driving license is an official document issued by the government that permits an individual to drive on public roads. It also doubles as a valid identity card. Driving without this license is a punishable offense under Indian law and can result in fines and legal consequences. The licensing process begins with a learner’s license and progresses to a permanent license after fulfilling certain conditions.

Start with a Learning License

After gaining sufficient experience and confidence, one must apply for a permanent license before the learner’s license expires to avoid repeating the entire process.
Empowering Citizens with Convenience
This new digital initiative ensures greater convenience for citizens while reducing bureaucratic delays and red tape. It aligns perfectly with the government’s broader goal of building a Digital India. Whether you live in a metro city or a small town, getting your driving license has now become faster, safer, and simpler.
