Noida, March 14: The district administration in Noida has intensified its investigation into the alleged shortage of LPG gas cylinders and complaints of black marketing. Officials assert that there is currently no gas shortage in the district, claiming that the prevailing atmosphere is merely a rumor. However, the reality on the ground tells a different story, with consumers lining up at gas agencies desperate for cylinders.
Under the direction of District Magistrate Megha Roopam, four joint teams have been formed to conduct inspections at various gas agencies and petrol stations. These teams include officials from the food and supplies department, the weights and measures department, and representatives from the relevant oil companies. On Friday, a special inspection campaign was launched targeting 14 gas agencies in the Dadri tehsil area.
The administration reports that these agencies have sufficient stock and found no evidence of black marketing. The district has a total of 65 gas agencies, including 13 from Indian Oil, and 26 each from Hindustan Petroleum and Bharat Petroleum.
Officials indicated that strict action is being taken against those involved in black marketing, and regular inspections of stock are ongoing. They also mentioned that the measurement of cylinders is being ensured to prevent any discrepancies for consumers. Despite these inspections, long queues of consumers were observed outside gas agencies. This issue has become particularly severe for migrant workers.
These workers, who come to Noida and Greater Noida from across the country in search of employment, often lack gas connections. As a result, they rely on LPG cylinders that are available without a connection. Reports of a shortage of these cylinders in the market have created a cooking crisis for them.
