Nishad Kumar clinched gold in T47 long jump at the Asian Para Games 2026, showcasing his athletic versatility in Nagoya.

Nagoya, October 19 (Daily Kiran) : Nishad Kumar made headlines on October 19, 2026, by winning the gold medal in the men’s T47 long jump at the Asian Para Games in Nagoya. The two-time Paralympic silver medalist achieved an impressive jump of 7.11 meters, adding a remarkable victory to his already distinguished para-athletics career.
Uzbekistan’s Omadbek Khasanov provided stiff competition, securing the silver medal with a season-best jump of 6.99 meters. Sri Lanka’s Mohammadu Safaran completed the podium with a jump of 6.55 meters.
Known for his high jump prowess, Nishad excelled in a discipline that ranks second in his athletic repertoire. He began with a jump of 6.95 meters, followed by a leap of 7.09 meters in his second attempt, which put him in the lead. He then increased his distance to 7.11 meters in the third round before committing a foul in his fourth attempt. Nishad wrapped up his competition with a final jump of 7.07 meters.
This victory is particularly significant as it marks Nishad’s recent foray into long jump. He only took part in this event last year and arrived in Japan with limited competitive experience in this discipline. His performance in Nagoya showcased his versatile talent and ability to excel in various athletic events.
While Nishad is primarily recognized for his achievements in the men’s T47 high jump, where he won a silver medal at the Paris 2024 Paralympics and gold at the World Championships, he is also the defending champion in high jump at the Asian Para Games. The 27-year-old will return to compete in the T47 high jump final on Tuesday, aiming to reclaim his gold medal.
