New Zealand Appoints Jimmy Neesham as Captain for Fourth T20 Against South Africa

New Delhi, March 22: New Zealand is currently leading the five-match T20 series against South Africa, with a score of 2-1. The fourth match is scheduled to take place in Wellington on Sunday. In a recent announcement, New Zealand Cricket confirmed that Jimmy Neesham will take on the captaincy for this match.

Originally, Tom Latham was set to lead the team in the last two matches of the series. However, the left-handed batsman sustained an injury during the third T20 and will miss the fourth match. In Latham’s absence, Neesham has been appointed as captain, while Tom Blundell has been brought into the squad to replace Latham.

According to a release from New Zealand Cricket, medical staff examined Latham’s thumb after the match, and he was taken to Christchurch for a scan the following morning. Latham’s participation in the fifth T20 will be determined based on the scan results.

The fifth T20 is scheduled to be played in Christchurch on March 25.

At 35 years old, Neesham made his T20 debut for New Zealand in 2012. He has played 103 T20 matches to date, but this will be his first time captaining the Kiwi team. Neesham will become the 12th captain for New Zealand in the T20 format. Known for his explosive batting in the lower order, Neesham has scored 1,075 runs at an average of 20.28 and a strike rate of 147.46 over 75 innings. Additionally, he has taken 64 wickets as a right-arm medium-fast bowler.

Neesham has the opportunity to secure a victory for New Zealand in the fourth T20, aiming to clinch the series after winning the second and third matches following an initial loss.
