Bihar Chief Minister Announces Compensation for Families of Deceased Workers in Prayagraj Incident

Patna, March 25: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has expressed his sorrow over the tragic incident in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, where three workers from Bihar lost their lives due to the collapse of a cold storage facility. He described the event as deeply unfortunate. In response, the Chief Minister announced a compensation of two lakh rupees for the families of each deceased worker from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.

Furthermore, CM Nitish Kumar has instructed officials to ensure proper medical treatment for the injured workers from Bihar. He also wished for the swift recovery of those affected by the incident.

The Chief Minister directed the local commissioner in New Delhi to make all necessary arrangements for transporting the bodies of the deceased workers back to their native villages.

The tragic accident occurred in the Fafamau area of Prayagraj on Monday, when the cold storage building collapsed with a loud explosion. Four workers died in the incident, and several others sustained injuries.

The incident took place in Chandapur village, located on the Prayagraj-Lucknow highway, where a private cold storage facility suddenly collapsed after a powerful blast. Police Commissioner Jogendra Kumar reported that emergency services, including police and relief agencies, arrived at the scene promptly after receiving news of the accident.

He confirmed that four fatalities were recorded, while many others were injured, with several in critical condition. The injured were immediately transported to Swaroop Rani Nehru Hospital for treatment.

According to the administration, the cold storage was owned by local businessman Ansar Ahmed. Initial investigations have raised concerns about structural negligence. The district magistrate is overseeing the investigation, while police are examining all aspects of the case. Following the accident, traffic on the Prayagraj-Lucknow highway was disrupted, leading to significant congestion in the Malak Harhar area.
