Auckland, October 11 (Daily Kiran) : New Zealand Cricket has announced its team for the five-match One Day International (ODI) series against India, set to commence on November 4 in Auckland. The squad sees the return of Finn Allen, Lockie Ferguson, Rachin Ravindra, and Tim Seifert. However, these players will not be available for all five matches, as some will depart after the third ODI to prepare for the subsequent Test series.
Mitchell Santner, Michael Bracewell, Mark Chapman, Jacob Duffy, Will Young, and Blair Tickner will be the only players present for the entirety of the ODI series. Seven players have been added for the final two ODIs.
Rachin Ravindra, who missed the T20 series against India due to a shoulder injury, will participate in the first three ODIs. Finn Allen and Tim Seifert are set to join the team for the last two matches. Allen and Ferguson last played an ODI for New Zealand in 2023, while Seifert’s last appearance in a 50-over match was against Pakistan 18 months ago. Santner will captain the team.
Jack Foulkes, Will O’Rourke, and Ben Sears were not selected due to injuries. Both teams are gearing up for the World Cup next year, making this ODI series crucial for their preparations.
New Zealand’s coach, Rob Walter, emphasized the importance of the upcoming matches against India. He noted that the management is focused on the 2027 World Cup, which will take place in South Africa, Namibia, and Zimbabwe.
Walter stated, “This series is significant for us as we play in front of our fans against a strong Indian team in packed stadiums. The ODI World Cup is only a year away, so it’s essential that we view these matches as valuable preparation for that event. Bringing in seven players for the last two ODIs allows us to test our depth and see how they perform against a world-class team. Every Test match is vital for us in terms of championship points, so we will release some players from that team for preparation ahead of the first Test against India on November 19 at Basin Reserve.”
The five ODIs between India and New Zealand will take place in Auckland, Wellington, Hamilton, and Mount Maunganui.
The squad for the first three ODIs includes: Mitchell Santner (captain), Michael Bracewell, Mark Chapman, Devon Conway, Jacob Duffy, Matt Henry, Kyle Jamieson, Tom Latham (wicketkeeper), Daryl Mitchell, Glenn Phillips, Rachin Ravindra, Nathan Smith, Blair Tickner, and Will Young.
The squad for the fourth and fifth ODIs features: Mitchell Santner (captain), Finn Allen, Michael Bracewell, Mark Chapman, Christian Clark, Jacob Duffy, Matt Fisher, Mitch Hey (wicketkeeper), Tim Seifert (wicketkeeper), Nick Kelly, Blair Tickner, and Will Young.
