New Medical Colleges to Be Established in Jharkhand with ₹1,249 Crore Investment

Ranchi, April 24: The path has been cleared for the establishment of new medical colleges in four districts of Jharkhand: Khunti, Giridih, Jamtara, and Dhanbad. The state government has finalized the comprehensive plan for the construction and operation of these colleges, with a total investment of ₹1,249 crore.

According to official information, the construction of these medical colleges will be carried out under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. The central government will provide a grant of ₹464.23 crore, while the state government will contribute ₹308.37 crore. The remaining costs will be covered by private agencies selected through a tender process. An additional ₹660.17 crore will be allocated for the maintenance and operation of the colleges over the next five years.

The participation will involve the central government, state government, and private agencies. For the Dhanbad Medical College, both the central and state governments will each contribute 30% of the construction costs. In the cases of Giridih and Jamtara, the central government will provide 40%, while the state government will contribute up to 20%. For Khunti, both governments will share the costs equally at 40% each. The estimated expenditure for the construction of Giridih Medical College is approximately ₹428 crore.

The proposed medical college in Jamtara has a budget of around ₹352 crore. The Khunti Medical College is expected to cost about ₹117 crore, while the construction of the Dhanbad Medical College is also estimated at approximately ₹352 crore. The government has appointed Ernst & Young as the technical advisor for this project. Separate committees have been established to oversee the tender process, grant distribution, and other related tasks.

The committee from the Higher and Technical Education Department will determine the fee structure for the medical colleges. Under this plan, the Khunti Medical College is expected to be completed in four years, while the colleges in Dhanbad, Giridih, and Jamtara will take five years to finish. The state government has approved funding for this project from the financial year 2025-26 to 2030-31.
