Netajis Missing Cap Found, But Authenticity Under Scrutiny

New Delhi, March 13: Chandra Kumar Bose, the great-grandson of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, recently claimed that the cap he had handed over to the Prime Minister had gone missing from the Netaji Museum at the Red Fort. However, he has now announced that the cap has been recovered, but he insists on verifying its authenticity.

Bose took to the social media platform X to express his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his swift action regarding the cap. Thanks to his personal intervention, the cap has been returned to the Netaji and INA Museum. Yet, researchers and those familiar with the cap have raised doubts about its authenticity, suggesting it may not be the original.

Bose has made a humble request for proper authentication to confirm whether the cap is indeed the genuine article. “Jai Hind,” he added.

In response to the controversy, the Archaeological Survey of India issued a statement on Friday, clarifying that the original cap of Netaji was temporarily moved for an exhibition in Vijaypuram from January 19 to 25, 2026, during the Parakram Diwas celebrations. Upon its return, the cap was placed in a secure location due to a malfunctioning lock. The lock has since been repaired, and the cap has been returned to display.

According to Bose, the issue of the cap’s disappearance came to light on March 10 when lawyer Naveen Bamal visited the museum and found the cap missing. He alleged on Thursday evening that officials were not providing any explanations regarding the cap’s status and urged the Prime Minister to intervene in the matter.
