Near Miss in Pune: Heavy Metal Sheets Fall During Metro Construction

Pune, May 9: A major accident was narrowly avoided in the Nigdi area near Pune on Saturday. During the ongoing construction of the Maha Metro near Bhakti-Shakti Chowk, heavy metal sheets unexpectedly fell onto the road. Fortunately, traffic was still flowing, and no pedestrians were injured in the incident.

Reports indicate that strong winds were blowing in the area at the time. The metal sheets, which were secured for safety during the metro work, could not withstand the wind pressure and were dislodged, landing directly on the main road.

The sudden fall of these heavy sheets caused panic among drivers and pedestrians. Eyewitnesses stated that if the sheets had struck a vehicle, it could have resulted in significant damage and potential injuries.

In the aftermath of the incident, local residents expressed their dissatisfaction with the safety measures in place for the Maha Metro construction. They emphasized that in a busy area like Bhakti-Shakti Chowk, robust safety protocols should be implemented to prevent similar occurrences in the future.

Meanwhile, preparations are underway in the national capital for a new metro corridor from Shastri Park to Mayur Vihar Phase-Three. This new corridor, part of Delhi Metro Phase V(B), will span approximately 13.2 kilometers and include eight metro stations, with three being underground and five elevated. This new line will start at Shastri Park and pass through important areas such as Nirman Vihar and Trilokpuri, ultimately reaching Mayur Vihar Phase-Three. It aims to alleviate daily traffic congestion and significantly reduce travel time for commuters.
