New Delhi, August 11: Political tensions have escalated both inside and outside Parliament regarding the police action against students during the Jharkhand Assembly siege. NDA lawmakers have targeted Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and the Indian Alliance, questioning why the opposition remains silent about the alleged police brutality involving baton charges and tear gas against students in Jharkhand. They have also criticized the Hemant Soren government for serious allegations related to competitive exams and recruitment processes in the state.
BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad demanded answers from Rahul Gandhi regarding the police actions against students in Jharkhand. He questioned Gandhi’s silence on the use of force against children, alleging that complaints about jobs being sold during exams and the influence of middlemen have been rampant in the state. Prasad stated that a Central Bureau of Investigation inquiry into the alleged exam scams could reveal the truth.
Prasad also responded to issues raised by the opposition in Parliament. He emphasized that the government is ready to listen to every point made by the opposition but urged them to also consider the ruling party’s perspective. He questioned Gandhi’s responsibility regarding the student protests, hunger strikes, baton charges, and tear gas usage in a state governed with Congress support.
He noted the contradiction where while Rahul Gandhi and the opposition demand accountability from the government in Parliament, similar police actions against students are occurring in Jharkhand.
BJP MP Shashank Mani Tripathi remarked that Rahul Gandhi and the opposition have been on the back foot since the protests began in Jharkhand. He stated that they have faced setbacks and have discouraged discussions. He urged that if they wish to engage in politics, it should be done in Parliament rather than on the streets. He warned that if they fail to represent the public’s concerns, they risk being rejected by the electorate.
Tripathi expressed that the treatment of students in Jharkhand was unacceptable and that they should be treated with respect. He highlighted that the nation is watching the actions taken against peaceful protesters. He suggested that if Gandhi truly opposes the atrocities against students, he should demand the government’s resignation and withdraw his support.
BJP MP Manoj Tiwari criticized the Congress-JMM government in Jharkhand, calling the treatment of students and women disgraceful. He asserted that Congress and Rahul Gandhi would face political consequences for these actions. Tiwari accused Gandhi of making grand claims in Delhi while failing to question his party’s government regarding the police actions against students in Jharkhand.
Union Minister Sanjay Seth also leveled serious allegations against the state government, stating that the actions taken against students crossed all limits. He accused the Hemant Soren government of adopting a “policy of suppression,” asserting that such treatment of students expressing their demands democratically is unacceptable.
BJP MP Jagdambika Pal criticized Congress and Rahul Gandhi, pointing out that while Gandhi demands answers from the Union Home Minister in Parliament, reports of police baton charges against students are emerging from Ranchi. He questioned whether Gandhi is attempting to shield the Hemant Soren government in Jharkhand and insisted that Congress should address the incident.
MP Bhagirath Chaudhary accused the opposition of disrupting parliamentary proceedings, claiming they lack a solid agenda. He noted that the opposition frequently shifts issues, stating that it is the responsibility of representatives to ensure the smooth functioning of the house for discussions on public matters and finding solutions.
