New Delhi, September 20 (Daily Kiran) : Praful Patel, a leader of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), recently commented on the victory of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) in the Delhi University Student Union (DUSU) elections. He criticized the opposition, asserting that students are more concerned about their future than engaging in low-level political tactics.
During a media interaction, Patel noted that Delhi University has long served as an indirect platform for various political parties. The National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), ABVP, and communist organizations all field candidates in these elections. He pointed out that the choice made by students reflects their indifference to the ongoing discussions surrounding other pressing issues.
While he did not name names, his remarks seemed directed at Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, who recently held a student engagement event in Indore.
Patel highlighted a significant issue related to student examinations that the government has acknowledged. He mentioned that a minister resigned to prioritize student interests, emphasizing the impact of irregularities in competitive exams on students and their families. The government has promised strict action against examination paper leaks. According to Patel, the DUSU election results indicate that the younger generation is not swayed by cheap politics; they care about their future.
Bihar’s minister, Deepak Prakash, stated that under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, both the central and state governments prioritize students and youth in every decision. He accused the opposition of attempting to exploit recent protests for political gain, asserting that students have consistently remained at the forefront of government considerations, a trend reflected in the DUSU election outcomes.
Minister Sanjay Singh from Bihar also expressed gratitude to the students of Delhi University and extended congratulations to the ABVP on their victory.
In contrast, HS Lucky, the Chandigarh president of Congress, commented on the DUSU election results, alleging that the BJP tends to exaggerate minor victories. He pointed out that the NSUI-backed candidate at Punjab University received the highest votes and noted that the newly elected vice president in Delhi was a rebel from the NSUI. He criticized the BJP and ABVP for only showcasing results that favor them while ignoring losses in other universities where the NSUI emerged victorious.
