Security forces achieved a significant breakthrough in the Naxal-affected region of Kanker, Chhattisgarh, on Thursday. In a major operation, the forces successfully thwarted a Naxal plot by recovering nine improvised explosive devices (IEDs) along with electric wires and a large quantity of explosive materials from Kalpar and Modemarka areas under Chhota Betiya police station.
Earlier, on Tuesday, security personnel recorded another success in South Bastar during an anti-Naxal campaign. Near the forested hills close to Gufa village in the Barsur police station area of Dantewada district, two IEDs planted by Maoists were detected and neutralised.
The joint operation was conducted following precise intelligence inputs. Acting on information received from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) on January 22, a coordinated search and de-mining mission was launched early Tuesday morning. The operation involved teams from the CRPF, bomb disposal squad, and officers from Barsur police station.
During the search in the dense forest area near Gufa village, the teams found explosives concealed by Maoists. The recovered devices included a directional pipe bomb fitted with a detonator weighing approximately five kilograms and a pressure cooker IED connected by a 15-metre wire.
Both devices were immediately transported to a secure location and safely destroyed by the bomb disposal squad, eliminating any threat to security personnel and local residents.
The operation was led by Commandant Anil Kumar Singh of the 195 Battalion alongside the bomb disposal team headed by Young Platoon and Assistant Commandant Himanshu. Superintendent of Police Gaurav Rai and Additional Superintendent of Police R.K. Barman are supervising intensified anti-Naxal patrolling and area domination efforts in Dantewada district.
