National Dialogue on Online Crimes Against Women and Children Launched by Home Secretary

New Delhi, March 13: Home Secretary Govind Mohan inaugurated the ‘National Dialogue on Online Crimes Against Women and Children’ in New Delhi. This event was organized by the Ministry of Home Affairs’ Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C). The aim is to bring together key stakeholders to strengthen coordinated mechanisms to prevent and effectively respond to online crimes targeting women and children.

Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the guidance of Home Minister Amit Shah, the Indian government is committed to enhancing institutional frameworks to ensure a safe, secure, and respectful digital environment for women and children across the country.

During the event, Home Secretary Govind Mohan highlighted the growing challenges posed by online crimes in an increasingly digital ecosystem. He emphasized the need to strengthen institutional capacities at both state and union territory levels to effectively combat these crimes. Mohan stressed that states and union territories should develop robust, specialized units and establish coordinated response mechanisms to ensure timely investigations, victim support, and swift action against offenders.

He also directed law enforcement agencies in all states and union territories to prioritize online crimes against women and children, ensuring a rapid and coordinated response to such cases. Mohan urged IT intermediaries to strictly adhere to the provisions of the Information Technology Act and related regulations, calling on all stakeholders to collectively work towards ensuring a safe and secure digital ecosystem.

This national dialogue serves as a platform for exchanging knowledge, sharing best practices, and collaboratively developing a national strategy to address the evolving challenges posed by online crimes in the digital environment.

On this occasion, a Master Trainers Induction Program for online crimes against women and children was also launched for states and union territories. The program aims to create a national pool of trained officials who will lead capacity-building initiatives in their respective states and union territories. The goal is to equip selected officials with specialized knowledge, investigative techniques, and best practices to tackle emerging cyber threats targeting women and children. These officials will subsequently train law enforcement personnel at the state and district levels, further strengthening the country’s response framework to such crimes.

Senior officials from law enforcement agencies of states and union territories, representatives from relevant ministries and departments of the Indian government, social media intermediaries, internet service providers, academics, civil society organizations, legal experts, and student representatives participated in the national dialogue.
