New York, August 27: Jacob Mensik and Karolína Muchová triumphed in the mixed doubles final at the 2026 US Open, defeating the duo of Flavio Cobolli and Belinda Bencic at Arthur Ashe Stadium on Thursday. The Czech pair secured their first Grand Slam title as a team, winning the match with scores of 6-3, 1-6, (10-6) after an intense battle lasting one hour and 13 minutes.
Mensik and Muchová started strong, maintaining their serve to take a 2-1 lead. They broke Bencic and Cobolli’s serve in the fourth game, capitalizing on a wide shot from the Swiss player. Although Bencic and Cobolli made a powerful comeback in the sixth game, they couldn’t secure a break, allowing the Czech duo to clinch the first set 6-3.
In the second set, Bencic and Cobolli regained momentum by breaking back when Bencic hit a forehand return winner, establishing a 3-1 lead. Their impressive comeback continued as Cobolli strengthened his serve, but Mensik’s serve was eventually broken. Bencic served to win the second set 6-1, pushing the match to a tiebreak. The Czech team managed to stay ahead at 9-5 before Mensik sealed the victory with an ace, securing the US Open title after a tiebreak win against Mira Andreeva and Andrey Rublev in the semifinals.
After the match, Muchová remarked, “I think in the end, our matching outfits made a difference. I really didn’t expect to be standing here tonight. We just came to have fun and enjoy this mixed doubles event. And now we are here.”
Mensik expressed his excitement, stating, “This is my first time standing here. I didn’t expect this before the tournament, but it’s so much fun. This victory is amazing.”
