Denver, April 20: Mickey Moniak delivered a pivotal two-run homer in the seventh inning, leading the Colorado Rockies to a 9-6 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday. This win marked the Dodgers’ first losing streak of the season, following a strong run where they won 11 out of 13 games before losing the last two in Denver.
Shohei Ohtani made headlines by doubling twice, extending his on-base streak to an impressive 51 games. Ryan Ward, making his major league debut, contributed with two hits and an RBI. Ohtani’s RBI double in the third inning positioned him third on the franchise list for consecutive games reaching base, trailing only Shawn Green and Duke Snider.
Ward, who was called up after Freddie Freeman went on the paternity list, had a long journey through 696 minor league games before his debut. In a critical moment in the ninth, he had a chance to tie the game with two outs and runners on base, but Troy Johnston’s diving catch in right field sealed the Rockies’ victory.
Ward initially helped the Dodgers take a 3-0 lead in the fourth inning with an RBI single. However, Colorado responded against Roki Sasaki, scoring one run in the fourth and two in the fifth, highlighted by Kyle Karros’ first homer of the season.
The Rockies took the lead in the seventh inning after Alex Freeland’s RBI single put Los Angeles ahead 4-3. Edouard Julien, who had three hits, started the eighth with a double, followed by Moniak’s homer to right-center. Hunter Goodman also doubled, scoring on Tyler Freeman’s single. Julien capped off the inning with two more RBIs, leading to a three-run eighth for Colorado.
