Nagpur, August 15: On the occasion of the 80th Independence Day, a special event was held at the headquarters of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) on Saturday. Dr. Mohan Bhagwat, the chief of the RSS, hoisted the national flag at the headquarters. Following this, a worship ceremony for Bharat Mata took place, attended by a large number of volunteers and security personnel.
In his address after the flag hoisting, Bhagwat spoke extensively about the sacrifices made for the country’s freedom and the responsibilities that lie ahead. He stated that Independence Day is a matter of pride and celebration for all of us. He noted that from 1857 onwards, our ancestors made numerous sacrifices over a span of 90 years to secure our freedom.
He remarked, “The glory of that sacrifice and dedication resides in our hearts, and we must also embrace another sentiment. After such hard work and sacrifice, we must preserve the freedom we have gained.”
Recalling the words of Veer Savarkar, Bhagwat said, “The best, noble, elevated, and sweet should manifest in our country.” He explained that the essence of freedom is to ensure that all that is excellent and virtuous flourishes within our nation. It is our duty to fulfill this need.
Bhagwat highlighted the significance of the national flag. He explained that when we hoist the tricolor, the colors convey a powerful message. The saffron color symbolizes hard work, knowledge, and sacrifice. He stated, “Just as a nation gains freedom through hard work, it becomes prosperous and secure through sacrifice and dedication. This saffron color reminds us of that necessity.”
The white color represents purity and peace. Bhagwat emphasized that the presence of sacrifice, dedication, hard work, and knowledge leads to societal peace and clarity of mind. The white color inspires us to engage in self-reflection and ensure our efforts are on the right path.
The green color symbolizes prosperity. He mentioned that the outcome of sacrifice and purity is prosperity. Referring to the Ashoka Chakra in the center of the tricolor, Bhagwat noted that while individuals may have different thoughts, this diversity is an expression of unity.
He illustrated, “There are many spokes in the wheel, but they all emerge from a single center, and this awareness is crucial for society. Thus, we must advance within the boundaries of discipline necessary for societal harmony. This is why the Dharma Chakra is placed at the center of our national flag.”
Bhagwat addressed the responsibilities facing the nation, stating, “The nation is free, and it will remain free. However, we must make it happy, prosperous, and secure. We aim to create a nation that contributes meaningfully to the world.”
He acknowledged the challenges and opposing forces but emphasized that we must remain true to our essence while facing these challenges globally. Our goal is to establish India as a guiding nation for the world, contributing significantly to humanity. This duty is before us today, and we must reflect on it.
He concluded by urging that during the flag hoisting, we should contemplate the thoughts behind these symbols. It is essential to incorporate the essence derived from this contemplation into our lives.
