Lucknow, August 15: On the occasion of the 80th Independence Day, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath highlighted the state’s achievements over the past nine years. He stated that Uttar Pradesh has transformed from a state of unrest to one of celebration and is now recognized as a model of good governance.
During the flag-hoisting ceremony held at the Vidhan Bhawan, the Chief Minister addressed the challenges that accompanied independence, such as illiteracy, inequality, and poverty. He emphasized that both the country and Uttar Pradesh have made significant strides in addressing these issues over the last nine years.
Yogi noted that historical improvements in law and order have changed the perception of Uttar Pradesh. The state is now known for its initiatives like “One District-One Product” and “One District-One Cuisine,” rather than for crime. He mentioned that the state’s budget and economy have nearly tripled, alongside a threefold increase in the female workforce.
The impact of good governance is evident in the state’s investment landscape. Over the past nine years, Uttar Pradesh has attracted approximately ₹50 lakh crore in investments, creating over four crore jobs. The number of large industries has increased two and a half times, and more than 22,000 startups have been established. Yogi also noted that over nine lakh youths have been provided with government jobs.
He highlighted the achievements in education and health, stating that the dropout rate in schools has plummeted from 19% to just 3%. The government has worked to ensure fair compensation for teachers, education volunteers, and cooks.
During the Independence Day celebrations, the Chief Minister paid tribute to the sacrifices of martyrs and the bravery of security forces. He honored Inspector Sunil Kumar of the Uttar Pradesh Police’s Special Task Force, who displayed extraordinary courage in a confrontation with notorious criminals, ultimately sacrificing his life.
Yogi announced that Inspector Sunil Kumar would be posthumously awarded the Kirti Chakra, recognizing not just his bravery but also honoring every member of the Uttar Pradesh Police for their dedication to public safety.
The celebration featured a helicopter flower drop and cultural performances showcasing folk songs from Bundelkhand, Braj, and Purvanchal, with artists from Jammu and Kashmir, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Assam, and Arunachal Pradesh participating. The Chief Minister also honored the families of martyrs and soldiers awarded the President’s Medal.
Earlier, the Chief Minister hoisted the national flag at his official residence, extending Independence Day greetings to the citizens. He remarked that freedom is not merely about rights but also about fulfilling one’s duties to the nation, urging every citizen to play their part in preserving the country’s independence and realizing the vision of a developed India.
