New Delhi, February 9: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Seychelles President Dr. Patrick Herminie on Monday. During their meeting, the leaders discussed bilateral cooperation. Prime Minister Modi announced a significant economic package worth $175 million.
While announcing the economic package, Modi stated, “We agree to continue seeking new opportunities to strengthen our economic cooperation. Alongside increasing trade in local currencies, we will also advance in fintech and digital solutions. Development partnership has been a strong foundation of India-Seychelles relations. All our efforts are based on Seychelles’ priorities and needs. Today, we are pleased to announce a special economic package of $175 million.”
Seychelles President Dr. Patrick Herminie expressed his honor in visiting Hyderabad House as part of his first official trip to India. He thanked Prime Minister Modi and the Indian people for their warm hospitality. This visit symbolizes the long-standing friendship and mutual respect between Seychelles and India, especially as this year marks a significant milestone in their relations. In June, both nations will celebrate the golden jubilee of their diplomatic ties.
He further noted, “We explored opportunities for trade, investment, and increased cooperation between our countries, focusing on the business and private sector aspects. Enhancing these linkages is essential for translating goodwill into continuous economic activity. Health cooperation has long been a strategic pillar of Seychelles-India relations and was a key focus of this visit.”
President Herminie emphasized that their discussions highlighted economic engagement and support for development. They explored ways to advance priority initiatives through appropriate development cooperation instruments, including project-based support and lines of credit. Maritime security and regional stability in the Indian Ocean remain central to their relationship.
He added, “We share perspectives on regional and global issues of mutual benefit, including developments in the Indian Ocean region and India’s growing role in multilateral forums like G20 and BRICS. In this context, we stress the importance of continuous engagement to promote peace, stability, and sustainable development.”
