Mobile Network Traffic in India Expected to Surge by 17% Annually from 2025 to 2030

New Delhi, October 9 (Daily Kiran) : India is set to experience a significant increase in mobile network traffic, projected to grow by approximately 17% annually between 2025 and 2030. This growth comes alongside an estimated annual revenue increase of 2.7% for telecommunications operators, according to a report released on October 9.

The KPMG India report indicates that the telecommunications equipment market in the country is expected to expand from $25 billion in the fiscal year 2025 to nearly $50 billion by fiscal year 2032. This growth rate is nearly double that of the global market.

India has developed substantial manufacturing capabilities in the telecommunications sector. By fiscal year 2026, mobile handset production is anticipated to reach ₹6,270 billion, with domestic production accounting for about 60% of the telecommunications equipment market, showcasing the country’s growing manufacturing prowess.

Akhilesh Tuteja, partner and national head of Clients and Markets as well as Technology, Media, and Telecommunications (TMT) at KPMG India, stated, “The integration of telecommunications, artificial intelligence (AI), semiconductors, cloud, and digital infrastructure is redefining value creation in the global technology ecosystem. As the foundation of the digital economy evolves from connectivity to intelligence, India has a unique opportunity to become a manufacturer of globally relevant technologies, platforms, and intellectual property (IP).”

To realize this potential, continuous investment in innovation, advanced manufacturing, and collaboration across various sectors will be essential. This will strengthen India’s leading position in the technology sector in the coming years.

The report highlights that the telecommunications industry has evolved beyond mere connectivity and is now developing into an intelligent digital infrastructure ecosystem. India stands at a crucial juncture to enhance its role in the global technology value chain.

Moreover, the integration of AI, telecommunications networks, semiconductors, cloud infrastructure, digital services, and supportive policy initiatives is creating unprecedented opportunities for innovation, value creation, and leadership in technology.

According to the report, the telecommunications sector is entering a new era where connectivity, AI infrastructure, and industrial capacity are increasingly interdependent. India has already proven its capability in developing substantial digital infrastructure and manufacturing capacity. However, to advance to the next stage of growth, greater participation in high-value sectors such as semiconductors, software, radio systems, optical technology, and intellectual property will be necessary.
