Mixed Reactions Emerge in the U.S. Following Trumps Iran Ceasefire Announcement

Washington, April 8: President Donald Trump’s announcement of a two-week ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran has sparked sharp and divided reactions within American political circles. Some lawmakers support the diplomatic move, while others urge caution.

According to the announcement, Washington and Tehran have agreed to work on a 10-point proposal and allow the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. Republican lawmaker Morgan Griffith welcomed the initiative, attributing its success to military pressure.

He stated, “President Trump deserves praise for negotiating a ceasefire with Iran. Thanks to the excellent efforts of the U.S. armed forces, Iran has been crippled and forced to come to the negotiating table.”

Griffith emphasized a key objective for the U.S.: “I support negotiations that ensure Iran never possesses nuclear capabilities. I also pray for the Americans who have sacrificed their lives for our country and their families. Their service should be honored.”

Pennsylvania lawmaker Brian Fitzpatrick described the ceasefire as a cautious yet necessary step. He remarked, “Diplomacy should always be our goal. This temporary ceasefire agreement is a constructive step in that direction, and we will continue to monitor the developments closely. Any action that saves American lives and creates space for serious peace talks is the right path. However, caution is still essential.”

He reiterated his longstanding concerns about Iran, stating, “There can be no ambiguity regarding the threats posed by this regime. It must never be allowed to acquire nuclear weapons.” He also stressed the importance of oversight, asserting that Congress should ensure “strict monitoring as the situation progresses.”

Senator Lindsey Graham indicated cautious support for diplomacy but warned against rushing to conclusions. He said, “As I have said before, if diplomacy yields the right results regarding Iran’s terrorist regime, I will prioritize it. I appreciate the hard work of everyone involved in seeking a diplomatic solution. However, I remain extremely cautious about what is true and what is fabricated. Every aspect must be thoroughly scrutinized.”

Indiana lawmaker Frank Mrvan accused the administration of acting without clear justification. He stated, “The President’s unilateral actions regarding Iran are misguided, and his dangerous rhetoric is exacerbating a bad situation. While I accept the administration’s announcement of a ceasefire, the truth is that there was no imminent threat. We had no clear objectives in the conflict, and our troops remain at risk.” Mrvan further noted that Americans are already “paying the price at gas pumps and grocery stores.”

Similarly, California Congressman Kevin Kiley expressed broad concerns about America’s conduct and Congress’s authority. He emphasized, “America does not destroy civilizations. Nor do we threaten to do so as a negotiating strategy. Monitoring ongoing military operations is Congress’s responsibility.”

Senator Lisa Murkowski criticized the President’s rhetoric, warning that it undermines the ideals the U.S. has strived to uphold for nearly 250 years. She stated, “Such rhetoric directly endangers Americans both abroad and at home.”

Arizona Senator Ruben Gallego echoed these concerns, asserting, “Trump’s threat to ‘destroy entire civilizations’ is an affront to the values we stand for and is entirely unlawful.”

It is noteworthy that this ceasefire comes amid heightened tensions in the Gulf region, where the Strait of Hormuz remains a critical route for global oil shipments. Any disruption there has an immediate impact on global energy markets, including India, which heavily relies on crude oil imports from the region.
