Agartala, August 15: A minor girl missing from Bengaluru has been safely rescued and brought back to South Tripura’s Sabroom. The police arrested the named suspect in the FIR, officials reported on Friday.
According to a police officer, the case was registered on June 27 under the Indian Penal Code, 2023, and was prioritized from the day it was filed. Investigators utilized various technical and digital clues, including call data records (CDR) and location-based services (LBS) analysis, with the assistance of the National Intelligence Grid (NATGRID) to locate both the girl and the suspect in Bengaluru.
After receiving approval from police headquarters, a three-member police team led by Sub-Inspector Ramani Debbarma was dispatched to Bengaluru to coordinate the rescue operation. Senior officials from the Bengaluru city police were contacted directly.
With the help of the Whitefield police station in Bengaluru, the 16-year-old girl was safely rescued, and the accused was arrested according to the law. The suspect was presented before the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate of Bengaluru Rural District on August 13, and the court issued a transit warrant for his appearance at the Sabroom Court in South Tripura by August 18, 2026.
As per police officials, necessary approvals were obtained from the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS), airport police, airport authority, and Indigo Airlines for the air travel of the accused, facilitating his return to Tripura with the police team. The police team returned to Tripura on Friday with both the accused and the girl.
The accused is being presented in the relevant court for further legal proceedings. The recovered girl is being cared for according to child protection regulations, prioritizing her safety, privacy, and dignity. The police stated they would not disclose her identity or personal information as per the law.
Within weeks of the case being registered, the girl was located and safely brought back from over 3,000 kilometers away. This incident highlights the importance of swift investigations, coordination between police across different states, and the use of technical and digital tools in locating missing children.
The South Tripura District Police expressed gratitude for the cooperation received from the police headquarters, NATGRID, Bengaluru city police, Whitefield police station, BCAS, airport authority, and Indigo Airlines in ensuring the safe recovery of the girl and the return of the accused to Tripura.
