MCA Unveils Logo for T20 Mumbai Womens League Ahead of May 2 Auction

Mumbai, April 26: The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has officially launched the logo for the inaugural T20 Mumbai Women’s League. This initiative marks a significant step towards empowering women’s cricket following the success of men’s leagues.

The unveiled logo embodies the spirit of modern women’s cricket. It reflects the dynamism, ambition, and energy of the T20 format while connecting to Mumbai’s rich sporting heritage.

Mumbai is recognized as a crucial hub for Indian cricket. The introduction of the women’s T20 league by the MCA is more than just a tournament; it is designed to spotlight, nurture, and elevate the next generation of female cricketers in the city.

Known as a reservoir of cricketing talent, Mumbai has produced numerous outstanding players. With the T20 Mumbai Women’s League, the MCA aims to advance this legacy, bringing the same competitive edge and depth to women’s cricket.

The first edition of the T20 Mumbai Women’s League will feature three teams. The format is crafted to maximize the match experience and competitive advantage. This league is envisioned as a vital feeder system, facilitating players’ transitions to state-level squads and national competitions.

Women’s cricket in India is at a pivotal juncture, bolstered by rising viewership, increased institutional investment, and the success of platforms like the Women’s Premier League. Leagues like this one in Mumbai are expected to deepen the talent pool and strengthen the structural framework for women’s cricket.

MCA President Ajinkya Naik stated, “Mumbai has always set benchmarks in cricket. With the T20 Mumbai Women’s League, we are advancing that legacy, creating a strong, sustainable pathway for women’s cricket, and preparing the next generation of players.”

Rajdeep Gupta, Chairman of the League Governing Council, emphasized, “The unveiling of the T20 Mumbai Women’s League logo is not just a symbolic achievement. It demonstrates our commitment to establishing a robust and competitive platform for female cricketers in Mumbai. Our vision is clear: we aim to create an ecosystem where talent is consistently recognized, developed, and given the opportunities it deserves. This league is a step towards institutionalizing that pathway.”

On May 2, the MCA will conduct player auctions for both men’s and women’s leagues. The T20 Mumbai League (men) comprises eight teams, while the women’s league will feature three teams. A total of 2,411 players have registered for the auction, including 2,048 men and 363 women.

Teams in the T20 Mumbai League must consist of at least 18 and a maximum of 20 players, while the women’s league will have between 16 to 18 players per team.

Each team is required to include at least two under-19 players. This initiative further strengthens the MCA’s long-term vision of creating a robust pipeline by integrating young players into a competitive, high-performance environment early in their careers.
