Lucknow, September 18 (Daily Kiran) : Mayawati, the national president of the Bahujan Samaj Party and former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, has criticized the government over the new UPI fee structure set to take effect on October 15. She argues that imposing fees on digital transactions could burden the common people financially.
In a series of posts on the social media platform X, Mayawati questioned the government’s commitment to education, particularly regarding a recently approved plan to convert 14,429 government schools into smart schools with an allocation of approximately ₹300 crore. She asserted that before implementing digital education initiatives, it is vital to ensure that schools are equipped with basic facilities.
Mayawati described the new fee structure as a form of capitalist profiteering, which could lead to increased taxation on the public. She expressed concern that while the government may not label this as a tax, the financial impact will ultimately fall on ordinary citizens, exacerbating their economic struggles amid rampant poverty and inflation.
She emphasized the urgent need for the government to address the fundamental issues facing the majority of the population, including education, unemployment, and infrastructure. Mayawati acknowledged the government’s intention to create smart schools but insisted that essential needs such as classrooms, benches, books, sanitation facilities, and clean environments must be prioritized first. She urged the government to reconsider the feasibility of providing adequate resources for each school, estimating that around ₹2 lakh per school would be necessary to meet these basic requirements.
Mayawati’s statements highlight the pressing issues within the education system and the broader economic challenges faced by the people of Uttar Pradesh.
