Ujjain, October 3 (Daily Kiran) : Maulana Mushtaq Malik from Hyderabad has expressed strong disapproval regarding the demolition of a mosque in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh. He described the incident as an attempt to distract public attention, emphasizing that Muslims will not be intimidated. “Muslims are citizens of this country and believe in the Constitution,” he stated.
In an interview, Maulana Malik explained that the mosque’s demolition was unwarranted, as Muslims had only requested the removal of a three-foot section. Despite this, the administration arrived at night with a crane to begin the demolition of the centuries-old structure, which features unique architecture. He raised concerns that using a crane would damage the mosque’s architectural integrity.
“By demolishing it with a crane, you have caused harm to the minaret that fell onto the roof,” he noted.
He further criticized the ruling party, suggesting they are struggling to govern effectively. “People from all walks of life, including youth, lawyers, and doctors, are ready to take to the streets. This issue in Ujjain is a diversion, but Muslims will not be afraid. They are citizens of this country and believe in the Constitution, which is why they chose to live here,” he asserted.
Maulana Malik warned that disregarding the Constitution could foster religious discrimination. He pledged that Muslims would respond to such actions, indicating that the current power dynamics would not endure.
The mosque’s partial demolition is part of a road widening project at the Shah Mosque in Chhatri Chowk, leading to tensions between local residents and police. However, after efforts to restore peace, the administration proceeded with the removal of the mosque’s section.
