Bareilly, August 3: Maulana Shahabuddin Razvi Barelvi, the national president of the All India Muslim Jamaat, has criticized author Taslima Nasreen for her support of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC). He described her stance as an intrusion into Sharia law and accused her of making hate speech against Islam and madrasas.
In response to Nasreen’s statements, Maulana Barelvi told a news agency, “Islam teaches women dignity, respect, etiquette, and culture. It is a religion that has granted women rights, status, and honor that they do not receive elsewhere. Today, Taslima Nasreen is raising questions, and the UCC has been introduced in Uttarakhand and implemented in Assam, Gujarat, and Madhya Pradesh. This UCC is, in fact, an interference in Sharia, which Muslims cannot tolerate, and they will not comply with the UCC.”
He further stated, “Bangladeshi writer Taslima Nasreen came to Kolkata and participated in an event. What she said there falls under the category of hate speech. The Supreme Court has imposed a complete ban on hate speech. Her comments about madrasas were entirely incorrect. History shows that from 1857 to 1947, the ulema (Islamic scholars) and students of madrasas played a crucial role in the country’s independence.”
He emphasized that from Rohilkhand to Meerut, Hasimpur, Ghaziabad, and Delhi Gate, 55,000 ulema lost their lives. These were all products of madrasas and ulema who sacrificed their lives to force the British to retreat. Today, they are labeled as terrorists, and Taslima Nasreen should feel ashamed.
Maulana Barelvi concluded by stating that Taslima Nasreen is the same writer who consistently writes articles against Islam and Muslims. She should not have a place in India. However, there are organizations in India that give her attention, which is very unfortunate, especially considering her participation in the Kolkata event.
