Controversy Surrounds Azam Khans Arrest by ED Immediately After Release from Jail

Rampur, October 31 (Daily Kiran) : Senior leader of the Samajwadi Party, Azam Khan, was taken into custody by Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials immediately after his release from jail on Saturday. This incident has prompted serious concerns from his legal team regarding the manner of his detention.
Lawyers representing Khan expressed their dismay, stating that the officials present did not identify themselves nor did they clarify the nature of the case against him. They argued that this lack of transparency constitutes a violation of legal procedures. Khan, who has served as both a Member of Parliament and a state legislator, deserves better treatment, they asserted.
Upon his release, Khan’s lawyers reported that he was swiftly taken away by unidentified individuals. They noted that these individuals failed to present any identification or proof of authority, leaving the lawyers unaware of which agency was involved. The legal team emphasized that they were not informed about the specific reasons for Khan’s detention or the allegations against him.
One lawyer highlighted that they requested the officials to allow Khan to meet his ailing wife, who has been unwell and has not seen him in a long time. His wife has health complications, including a stent and a previous fungal infection that required hospitalization. Given these circumstances, the lawyer argued that Khan should have been granted the opportunity to see her.
Another lawyer pointed out that they were initially unsure whether the officials were from the ED or another agency. The absence of identification and explanation for the detention raised significant concerns. In any criminal case, the arrested individual should be informed of the grounds for their detention, and their family should also receive timely notifications. However, no such information was provided in this case.
The lawyers expressed their sadness over the incident, noting that they have witnessed the challenges Khan has faced over the past several years. They accused authorities of creating an oppressive environment for him, which they have closely observed.
Additionally, one lawyer labeled the actions of the officials as illegal, stating that the necessary protocols outlined by the Supreme Court and High Court were not followed. They were not allowed to meet Khan, nor were they informed about the specific charges leading to his detention. The officials should have clarified their agency affiliation, their positions, and the basis for their actions, they argued.
Despite knowing that the following day was Sunday, the officials proceeded with the detention immediately after Khan’s release, without providing any information or identification. This has led to widespread criticism from his legal team and raised questions about the integrity of the process.
