Durban, October 10 (Daily Kiran) : Australian cricketer Matt Renshaw celebrated a significant milestone by scoring a century against South Africa in the first Test match at Kingsmead, Durban. This achievement came on October 10, 2026, during the second day of Australia’s first innings, marking his first Test century in over nine years.
Renshaw reached his century off 204 balls, concluding with a boundary to secure his second Test ton. His previous century was a remarkable 184 runs against Pakistan in January 2017, after which he had to wait for 20 innings to reach this latest landmark.
Since making his Test debut in November 2016, Renshaw played seven matches in 2017. However, after his 2017 innings, he only managed to score two fifties and participated in just one Test match in 2018. Following a lengthy absence, he returned to the Test format in 2023 but struggled with scores of 5, 0, 2, and 2, which led to his exclusion from the team for three years.
Renshaw’s comeback began in August 2026, when he played against Bangladesh but only managed to score 8 runs. In the ongoing Test match in Durban, Australia faced early challenges, losing two wickets for just 24 runs. Renshaw stabilized the innings after the dismissal of Steve Smith, who scored 25 runs, forming a crucial partnership with Alex Carey for the fifth wicket, contributing 36 runs and helping the team surpass the 100-run mark.
At one point, Australia was 124 runs with six wickets down, but Renshaw then built a significant partnership with captain Pat Cummins, adding 86 runs for the seventh wicket and pushing the total beyond 200. He also partnered with Nathan Lyon for an unbroken 47-run stand for the ninth wicket.
By lunch, Australia had scored 277 runs for the loss of eight wickets, with Renshaw remaining unbeaten on 102 runs off 218 balls, including ten boundaries. South Africa’s Vian Mulder claimed four wickets, while Marco Jansen and Anrich Nortje each took two.
