Manchester, October 10 (Daily Kiran) : Manchester City striker Erling Haaland is confident that the team’s supporters will have a great time at Anfield this Sunday. As the Premier League leaders prepare to face their fierce rivals Liverpool, the Norwegian player has urged his teammates to remain positive and united ahead of this crucial match.
In an interview shared by ‘Giostar’, Haaland stated, “I’m sure that when we go to Anfield, Manchester City fans will have a good time.” His remarks come as City gears up to resume their Premier League campaign following the international break. The club is also dealing with uncertainty stemming from allegations of financial rule violations.
City has denied any wrongdoing and is currently appealing against the findings of an independent commission regarding the alleged breaches of Premier League financial regulations, a matter that remains unresolved. The ongoing proceedings have raised concerns about potential sanctions for the club.
On the field, City has made an impressive start to the league season, winning their first five matches before the international break to claim the top spot in the standings. However, they face a tough challenge at Anfield, where recent encounters between the two teams have been fiercely contested.
Haaland acknowledged the special significance of facing Liverpool, recalling how he observed the rivalry between City manager Pep Guardiola and former Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp during his time at Salzburg and Borussia Dortmund.
“Playing against Liverpool is always special, especially because Pep and Klopp have been rivals for years. I remember watching Liverpool vs. Man City matches from Salzburg and Dortmund, seeing how Pep and Klopp pushed each other,” he said.
He added, “Playing at Anfield is always special. I’ve won there, drawn, and lost, so it’s always significant. Every Premier League match is different, and every game against Liverpool is always special.” The Norwegian also shared his emotional connection to the UK, noting that his family has roots in the country.
“I have a strong attachment to this place and the UK in general. My mother lived here for ten years. They were in Nottingham and Leeds, so they never lived in Manchester, but obviously, my father trained every day at Carrington during his time at Manchester City. I spent my first four years here, and at that time, my brother was nine and my sister was six. That’s why this place is special to us. I have a deep affection for Manchester City, I must say. I care a lot about the fans because I’m a fan myself, and I understand their emotions,” he explained.
Ahead of Sunday’s match, Haaland emphasized the importance of maintaining a positive atmosphere within the squad despite the challenges they face. “We need to stay united as a team. We need to support each other and stay positive. No matter what happens in life, we should always have a smile on our faces. We must show love and togetherness. Stay united, enjoy the journey, and keep smiling. We need to remain positive, look ahead, try to win football matches, and enjoy the game,” he concluded.
