Marco Rubio Explains US Decision to Postpone Sanctions for 60 Days in Uzbekistan

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio discusses the postponement of sanctions and economic opportunities during his visit to Uzbekistan.

Tashkent, October 19 (Daily Kiran) : US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, during his visit to Tashkent, revealed the rationale behind the United States’ decision to delay sanctions for 60 days. He emphasized that the US seeks fair competition for its businesses and companies across the globe.

Speaking at a press conference in Samarkand’s Registan Square, Rubio stated, “American companies must be able to compete worldwide with their products and services. It is crucial that they are given a fair opportunity.” The US State Department shared clips from the event, where Rubio articulated his country’s stance.

He further clarified, “We are not here to tell anyone to stop engaging with other nations. Our goal is to ensure that in every part of the world opening its doors to American business, our companies are also present.”

Rubio praised Uzbekistan’s economic progress, noting the significant achievements the country has made in development and prosperity over the last decade. He remarked, “Uzbekistan has made it clear that it wants to maintain friendly relations with all countries.”

The Secretary of State expressed the desire for the US to identify potential collaborative opportunities with Uzbekistan, highlighting that nearly 300 American businesses accompanied him on this visit. He reiterated that the aim is to explore new trade and economic partnerships, allowing American companies to compete effectively in international markets.

Addressing questions about the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, Rubio indicated that President Donald Trump desires an end to the hostilities between the two nations. He referenced Trump’s campaign statements, suggesting that had he been in office earlier, the war might have been averted.

Rubio noted that since the conflict began, the US has made every effort to facilitate its resolution and will continue to do so. “No one is winning in this war. Every day, lives are lost, and devastation occurs,” he stated, emphasizing the tragic toll of the conflict, which Trump has cited as resulting in approximately 25,000 casualties monthly.

He acknowledged the ongoing efforts over the past two years to help end the war, although progress has not met expectations. Rubio highlighted that the decision to postpone sanctions was made to see if the ongoing negotiations between Russia and Ukraine yield positive outcomes. The initiative aims to explore pathways to prevent another devastating year of conflict, with the hope that dialogue can lead to a resolution.
