Marco Rubio Defends America First Foreign Policy Before House Subcommittee

Washington, June 2: U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio will present the budget proposal of the State Department before a House subcommittee on Tuesday. During this session, he is expected to defend significant changes in foreign aid, diplomacy, and regional security, asserting that the Trump administration has shifted U.S. foreign policy to prioritize American interests.

According to his prepared remarks, Rubio will argue before the House Appropriations Subcommittee on National Security, the State Department, and related programs that U.S. foreign policy under President Donald Trump has returned to its core purpose: protecting the American people, the nation, sovereignty, civilization, and future.

This statement serves as a robust defense of the Trump administration’s foreign policy, delivered approximately a year and a half after Trump’s return to power. Rubio emphasizes that the U.S. remains the world’s largest military and economic power, but this strength should primarily serve to advance the country’s interests.

In his prepared remarks, he stated, “We believe that America should lead the world. This leadership must always be for American interests.”

Rubio is also expected to defend the significant changes made at the State Department, which he describes as the largest reorganization in the department’s history. He believes that they have consolidated several offices, eliminated unnecessary and complex bureaucracy, streamlined operations, and empowered regional departments to perform their duties effectively. “We have restored discipline, unity, and mission,” he added.

A substantial portion of his speech will focus on changes in foreign aid programs. Programs that did not benefit U.S. interests have been discontinued, and remaining aid is now under greater control of the State Department.

Rubio asserts that they have transformed the approach to foreign aid. Properly understood, foreign aid is a crucial tool and an essential means of political maneuvering. However, every dollar spent should enhance America’s security, strength, or prosperity.

According to Rubio, the budget supports a new ‘America First Global Health Strategy’ and expands programs that will bolster U.S. economic strength and secure access to essential resources.

The proposal also includes support for the ‘America First Opportunity Fund,’ aimed at strategic investments, strengthening supply chains, securing essential minerals, and enhancing U.S. competitiveness in new technology industries.

Rubio states that the purpose of this fund is to strengthen America’s global competitiveness.
