Mumbai, May 28: The defending champions, Maratha Royals, have unveiled their new jersey for the fourth season of the T20 Mumbai League. Captain Siddhesh Lad expressed optimism that the team will successfully replicate last year’s performance. He highlighted that the team includes players like Vaibhav Surve, who can change the course of any match single-handedly.
In an interview, Siddhesh stated, “This year, we will undoubtedly face pressure as we were the champions last season. When we entered the tournament last year, no one expected us to win the title. Any team that becomes a champion gains respect from others, and all teams will come prepared against us. However, we will focus on our strengths and prepare as we did last season.”
Siddhesh emphasized that the team has several players akin to Vaibhav Surve. He mentioned, “We have many players like Vaibhav Surve. Last season, we saw Sahil Jadhav play several impactful innings for us. We are delighted to have retained him. Additionally, there are new faces in the team. This year, our squad looks very balanced.”
He praised Vaibhav Surve, stating he never imagined an Indian batsman could break Chris Gayle’s record for the most sixes in a single season.
The captain noted that the current IPL 2026 season has taught the team a lot. He observed that the mindset of batsmen in the IPL is remarkable, with players trying to dominate bowlers from the very first ball.
Team head Amit Dhani acknowledged that defending the title will not be easy. However, he mentioned that the team has retained ten players and appears well-balanced. The coach added that they experimented with various combinations last season, which they aim to avoid this time. The fourth season of the T20 Mumbai League kicks off on June 1, with Maratha Royals set to play their first match against Akash Tigers on the same day.
