Maoist Leader with ₹5 Lakh Bounty Killed in Chhattisgarh Encounter

Raipur, March 29: In a significant operation, security forces killed a Maoist leader in the Polampalli police station area of Sukma district, Chhattisgarh, on Sunday. The encounter was based on specific intelligence regarding the presence of Maoists in the region.

The District Reserve Guard (DRG) team initiated the operation under the leadership of Sukma’s Superintendent of Police, Kiran Chavhan. They began a search operation in the dense forests. Throughout Sunday morning, intermittent gunfire erupted between the security personnel and the Maoist group.

After the firing ceased, the search team thoroughly combed the encounter site. They discovered the body of a male Maoist along with weapons. The deceased was identified as PPCM Muchaki Kailash, a resident of Poolanpad in the Chintalnar police station area. He held the position of section commander in the CPI (Maoist) organization’s platoon number 31.

Kailash had a bounty of ₹5 lakh on his head. He was wanted in several cases related to the murder of civilians, attacks on security forces, and plots involving improvised explosive devices (IEDs).

Inspector General of Bastar Range, Sundar Raj Pattilingam, urged remaining Maoist cadres to surrender immediately. He emphasized that the opportunity for surrender and rehabilitation is nearing its end, leaving little time for them to take advantage of this chance.

The senior police official appealed to the Maoists to abandon the path of violence and reintegrate into mainstream society, allowing them and their families to lead peaceful, secure, and dignified lives. He stressed that security forces would continue operations against those who choose to remain in the forests and engage in violence.

This encounter comes at a time when state police and central forces have intensified anti-Maoist operations in the Bastar division, ahead of the March 2026 deadline set by the central government to eradicate Naxalism from the region.

In recent months, several Maoists have surrendered and reintegrated into society, while others have been killed in encounters with security forces.

Police officials confirmed that there were no casualties or injuries among the security personnel during this encounter. This successful operation is viewed as another step in the ongoing campaign to restore peace and normalcy in the troubled Sukma area of Chhattisgarh.
