Manoj Muntashir Reveals the Story Behind Koun Tujhe Yun Pyaar Karega

Mumbai, July 1: Renowned Bollywood lyricist and writer Manoj Muntashir has made an intriguing revelation about the popular song ‘Koun Tujhe Yun Pyaar Karega’ from the film ‘M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story.’ He disclosed that the song was initially intended to be sung in a male voice, not a female one, and that it underwent several changes and extensive discussions during its creation.

This revelation came during a conversation on the show ‘Tum Ho Na,’ hosted by actor Rajeev Khandelwal. Muntashir explained that while working on the film’s story and music, discussions about this song took place. At that time, it was decided that singer Arijit Singh would lend his voice, with music composed by Amal Malik. The song was originally planned to be sung from a man’s perspective, showcasing emotions in a different light.

Muntashir shared, “In the film, the character of cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni was portrayed by actor Sushant Singh Rajput. When the song was prepared in a male voice, director Neeraj Pandey and producer Bhushan Kumar felt that it did not align with Dhoni’s true personality. Dhoni is inherently a calm person and does not openly express his love in such a manner. This raised the question of whether the song was indeed suitable for this character.”

He continued, “There was considerable discussion on this, and the team even contemplated rewriting the song. However, despite several attempts over 10 to 15 days, no new song could match the original’s impact. Eventually, director Neeraj Pandey suggested that if Dhoni couldn’t express his love in that way, perhaps his girlfriend could convey those feelings. This idea led to the decision to have the song sung in a female voice.”

Muntashir noted that after this change, the entire team breathed a sigh of relief. Had the song been removed from the film, audiences might have missed out on such a beautiful piece. Today, this song is considered one of the most memorable parts of the film and holds a special place in people’s hearts.

During the conversation, Muntashir also shared a personal story related to the song’s inception. He recounted a moment at home when his son innocently remarked that his mother loved him more. In response, Muntashir jokingly said, “Koun tujhe yun pyaar karega jaise main karta hoon?” As soon as those words left his mouth, he realized that they could inspire a song. He quickly noted the line on his mobile for future reference.
