Mumbai, September 6 (Daily Kiran) : National Award-winning actor Manoj Bajpayee, eagerly awaiting the release of his upcoming film “Last Man in Tower,” expressed that actors do not worry about portraying characters of a specific age. During a promotional event in Andheri West, Mumbai, he shared his thoughts alongside actress Divya Dutta and director Ben Rekhi.
Bajpayee stated, “Playing a character of a certain age is not something we, as actors, worry about too much. What truly concerns us is exploring the layers of the character and its depth. Every character is like an onion, just like humans. Uncovering those layers is a challenging task. Characters have a backstory and a characterization. You read the script, which provides various ideas. Based on that, you make notes and try to create a backstory filled with grey shades, intricacies, and multiple layers.”
He emphasized that the real work of an actor begins during shooting, as it is in real-time that changes may be needed. “Sometimes, minor adjustments are necessary, or you may have to alter your approach based on the film’s requirements, as the story takes shape during shooting,” he explained.
Bajpayee further noted, “However, while working, you discover many layers. The setting, the energy of co-actors, and how they portray their characters all compel or inspire you to work more openly as an actor and performer. The way they treat my character also gives me ideas for adding more layers. It’s a continuous process. Acting never stops. The entire process doesn’t halt before shooting.”
He added, “In fact, it evolves with the shooting and sometimes takes an entirely new direction, where the preparation had no inkling. I find the journey of walking an unknown path very interesting. Initially, it’s daunting to leap into that dark cave. But once you get there, you start enjoying it.”
“Last Man in Tower” is set to hit theaters on September 11, 2026.
