Manish Tewari Claims Election Commission Became a Tool for BJP in Bengal

Chandigarh, May 8: In a significant political shift, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has secured a historic victory in the West Bengal Assembly elections, ending the 15-year rule of the Trinamool Congress (TMC). This marks the first time the BJP has gained the right to form a government in the state.

Congress MP Manish Tewari attributed the BJP’s success to the division between Congress and TMC during the elections. He stated that the Election Commission acted as a tool for the BJP. In an interview in Chandigarh, Tewari expressed that had TMC and Congress contested together, the outcome could have been different, warranting further analysis.

He emphasized that the election results reveal a concerning trend: in several constituencies, the margin of victory was less than the number of voters who were denied the opportunity to vote. Tewari announced that election petitions would be filed in every constituency where this situation occurred. He lamented the unfortunate misuse of government machinery in West Bengal, claiming that the Election Commission, which should be an impartial body, functioned as an instrument for the BJP. He described this as a dark day for Indian democracy, predicting negative repercussions.

Regarding the recent blasts in Punjab and comments from Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Tewari remarked that Punjab’s character does not align with BJP’s ideology. Historically, Punjabis have defended their land against invaders. He noted that Punjab is the state that successfully protested to repeal the controversial agricultural laws, making comparisons with other states inappropriate.

Tewari urged caution against Pakistan’s conspiratorial mindset, asserting that there should be no politics surrounding national security issues.

Following the BJP’s resounding victory in Bengal, preparations for the swearing-in ceremony of the new government are now underway.
