Imphal, July 11: Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh reiterated on Saturday that the BJP-led state government is taking all necessary measures to ensure justice in the abduction and murder of six Naga citizens in Kangpokpi district nearly two months ago.
The Chief Minister emphasized the government’s commitment to justice regarding the incident that occurred in Leilon Waifei village in Kangpokpi district.
Speaking to the media during the launch of the ‘Uningthou Uyok’ (a dedicated tree plantation campaign) at the SEED complex in Olympian Park, Imphal West district, he noted that based on information provided by the victims’ families, two suspects have already been arrested.
Recalling the tragic event, the Chief Minister stated that on May 13, three pastors were killed in an ambush by unidentified individuals, after which around 18 people were taken hostage by suspected Kuki militants in Leilon Waifei village.
Of these 18 individuals, 12 were later released, while six were abducted. Their bodies were subsequently recovered.
Chief Minister Singh further mentioned that he visited Makhan village to meet with the grieving families alongside both Meitei and Naga legislators.
During the visit, family members of the victims identified five individuals allegedly involved in the incident.
Based on the names provided by the victims’ families, two suspects have already been apprehended.
When asked about the remaining suspects, the Chief Minister stated that ensuring their arrest is the responsibility of the state government and law enforcement agencies, and necessary directives have been issued to the relevant authorities.
According to a police officer, a joint team from the National Investigation Agency (NIA), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and Manipur Police arrested a couple on Friday for their alleged involvement in the abduction and murder of the six Naga citizens in Leilon Waifei village.
Previously, Chief Minister Singh announced that the cases related to the abduction and murder of six Naga villagers, along with the killings of three church leaders, would be handed over to the NIA for a comprehensive investigation.
